Tanner Hosts Cancer Survivor Celebration

More than 250 cancer survivors and guests from across west Georgia and east Alabama turned out Thursday evening for Tanner Health System's first annual Celebration of Life.
Tanner and the Roy Richards, Sr. Cancer Center hosted the event, which invited cancer survivors from across the region for a special evening of fellowship and entertainment at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
"It was thrilling to see so many people come out for this event, and give us the opportunity to salute them," said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health System.
Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and dessert and were treated to a special presentation by guest speaker Christine Clifford, a breast cancer survivor, founder of The Cancer Club and acclaimed author of "Not Now, I'm Having a No Hair Day," "Cancer Has Its Privileges: Stories of Hope and Laughter," "Our Family Has Cancer, Too!" and more.
Clifford's presentation followed a rousing testimonial and invocation from the Rev. Joe Neal, whose own battle against cancer was featured in the latest issue of Tanner's Healthy Living magazine.
Cancer survivors received a gift of an autographed copy of Clifford's "Cancer Has Its Privileges." Clifford also signed other books that were available at a substantial discount.
The Roy Richards, Sr. Cancer Center is part of Tanner Health System, a four-hospital regional healthcare provider with more than 260 physicians representing 35 specialties.
